Protest Cable Call 2011

Welcome to the PROTEST CABLE CALL 2011. This international wakeboard event took place on the 13th and 14th of August 2011 at the Down Under cableway, Nieuwegein. As a part of the WWA Wake Park World Series, the bestest of the best wakeboarders in the world showed off to impress the judges. You were invited to come hang out with your friends, check out the contest, have a bite and a drink, improve your dance moves at the party, win some goodies and get your board groceries at the shopping street. But unfortunately, the event is over. See you at the Protest Cable Call 2012!

Next Cable Call: August 25th and 26th 2012

Wakeboarders, grab your calendars (if you guys have any): on the 25th and 26th of August 2012 the Protest Cable Call is alive and kicking at Down Under, Nieuwegein. No calendar? No worries, we'll probably remind you about this in the upcoming months anyway.

Keep checking out this website, and don't forget to check out our Facebook page:

Happy Birthday Jeroen

The main man behind the scenes is Jeroen Beersmans. You might remember the interview we had with him. It's his birthday today. Congratulations!

From now on it'll be all English again

Now that's a weird name for a post, isn't it? The Dutch part of the Protest Cable Call website was in English for a while, now we've switched it back. Click here if you like to read Dutch.

More to come

The Protest Cable Call 2011 has now officially come to an end. It was awesome. But we've got still some more in store for you! The video update of day two and a video report of the whole weekend -both shot by Lieuwma Productions- will show up somewhere these days. So keep checking out the site or our Facebook page because you don't wanna miss out on the upcoming eyecandy.

Nusport interview with Denise de Haan

Our friends at Nusport.nl have written a nice article about Denise de Haan. She's on top of her game, good luck in the finals!

Rocco needs his cable call

Rocco has been partying and is in need of a cable call. According to the schedule, he should be on his board at 11:30. Who is going to wake that boy up?

Good morning sir

No-one who was at the party last night will probably read this, since they're all a bit hung-over. But good morning folks! Currently we're filling up the lake with fresh new water from the sky, because the riders really ripped it up yesterday. We've ordered lots of sun today, and it should be arriving around 12 o'clock. So we'll see you at noon.

peer just had dinner

Peer just had dinner and he really wanted us to share it with you guys. Well done Peer, good job boy.

win #cablecall photo

In the hearts of everyone lies a photographer, or at least; in the hands of everyone lies a photocamera. On Saturday and Sunday (today and tomorrow) you can take your pictures. Please tweet your most beautiful, funniest, best, most tough ass photo of the Protest Cable Call. The best shots will be richly rewarded: We're giving away a clinic with protest rider Sjors van de Kerkhof and some really nice Protest Cable Call outfits (a limited edition cap and tee) Just don't forget the #cablecall tag!

If you don't have Twitter, are not to keen on social-media or just don't want to tweet, you're also free to email us your photo's through win@protestcablecall.com.

Nusport.nl interview with Daniel Grant

The crew of the Dutch news site Nusport.nl had a nice interview with Daniel Grant. A short story about Holland, the event and rain. Check it out here.

Weather forecast for Sunday

Thanks to Paddy who dropped this on Facebook! In the evening, make sure you get a roof over your head or put on your Protest Gore-tex jacket, because there will be some drips from the sky. Won't be a lot though.

Sunday night there will be some heavy rain unfortunately, but after ten o'clock the sky will clear up. Towards the end of the afternoon there might be some sun! Let's (s)pray!

Martijn and Mees

At the Cable Call, all sorts of people are walking around. We bumped into Martijn Oostdijk -event manager at the Dutch Ski Federation- and his son Mees, they were having a pretty good time at the shopping street.

Hi guys! What's up?
Mees: Good! I've been riding on the electroskate, which is a motorised mountainboard. That was fun! And have done a lot of fun stuff at the shopping street. I even won this cap so it's great! The only thing that I don't like is that I can't wakeboard now myself, when I see all those good riders I want to hit the water myself!

Maybe in a few years there'll be a grommet section for you. Martijn, you've organised multiple Dutch Championships in skiing and snowboarding. What do you think of the event so far?
The event is set up really nice, Down Under is a perfect location for it. They're making good use of the space available, as you can see with the placement of the shopping street, the beach, the party tent, everything. It's like this place was made for an event like this. There's also a lot to do for everyone, it's a great event even when you're not that hardcore incrowd in the board scene. That makes this an event for everyone.

You're well involved with the Dutch snowboard scene. Do you see the same vibe in the wakeboard scene?
I see that wakeboarding attracts a lot of boardminded people. It's a nice scene, a lot of people, a really good atmosphere. I like it a lot. Like in freestyle snowboarding, the riders are really supporting each other, instead of being really competitive they're hyping each other up and having them push their boundaries. They're helping each other to overcome their obstacles, haha!

At that time Mees attacked his dad and threw him to the ground, because Mees was in serious need of a Cornetto icecream. End of interview.
